Fascinating talk on Neanderthal DNA origins

Do you have any Neanderthal DNA?

I do at around 4% so these are my relatives. Leading evolutionary anthropologist Svante Pääbo, describes the current views of Neanderthal’s contribution to the modern human genome. Svante’s leading-edge genome sequencing techniques give new insights our origins. If you are of European origin you most likely have from 1%-4% Neanderthal DNA, that’s more than you would have inherited from you great, great, great, great grandmother. Though your grandmother’s DNA will be in large sequences, the Neanderthal DNA is diffuse throughout the genome. Svante mentions keratin, autism and late-onset diabetes as possibly Neanderthal in origin.
