Making the Grade with ADD – Stephanie Moulton Sarkis

Book review

Aimed at older kids, with some expert study thoughts

Author Stephanie Moulton Sarkis has ADHD and is a licensed mental health counsellor. In “Making the Grade with ADD: a Student’s Guide to Succeeding in College with Attention Deficit Disorder” she writes about the many ways that college and university can present new challenges in an ADHD life. Without the help of parents and the rigid structure of school, much of what is exciting – independence, different activities, staying away from home and new friends may present new hurdles to a young adult with ADHD.

This guide is designed to help the ADHD student adjust to college and university life, teaching new ADHD-friendly skills to avoid problems and stress in many areas. It gives sound advice to: help create study habits that work with your ADHD; plan time effectively and set up a class schedule; get along with new friends/room/house-mates and establish a comfortable living situation; focus, self-motivate and study when surrounded by distractions; balance time for socialising and to take advantage of campus life while avoiding potential pitfalls.

A valuable resource through the college/university years.
