ADHD Coach for Executives with ADHD

Coaching Professionals and Executives with ADHD

A significant proportion of professionals and senior executives are ADHD, from Richard Branson of Virgin to David Neeleman, CEO of JetBlue Airlines and inventor of the e-ticket. Often unaware of their ADD, professionals nevertheless capitalise on their beneficial ADD traits - of passion, creativity, out-of-the-box thinking and drive.  Frequently they are also struggling with a number of the challenges that go along with ADHD too.

Does this sound like a typical day?

You are running late, the report has been bothering you for months. A week ago you quickly knocked out the bulk of it, working late into the evening but since then you just never found the time to complete it. The report is due to be presented later today, so with an hour to go you print a draft copy on the printer but as you return to your desk to review it, you notice several new emails and find yourself deep into answering an important email from a new client. You look up at the time to realise you have less than twenty minutes to get across town to the meeting and you still haven't proof-read or printed the three final copies of your report.  You arrive exhausted and stressed two minutes late to the meeting with only two copies of the report (printer problems!) and you notice the date on the top cover sheet is wrong, as you had them out to your managers.

Does this sound like your work life?

Over the years, despite your sometimes erratic performance, you have have done well at work. As a top performer you are valued for your effort and innovative ideas but your colleagues see you as unreliable and erratic. What they, and maybe you, don’t realize is that you have been struggling silently with the effects of ADD. Working late to catch up on dreaded paperwork and projects, difficulties with organization and planning have taken a toll their on your personal life. At home always misplacing things, forgetting bills and leaving unfinished projects all over the house, you and your wife/husband are stressed and unhappy. Your story is typical of high achieving professionals with ADHD, challenged daily by their neurobiology. Though success may have overshadowed the negative effects of ADHD to date, now in higher management your ADD issues become more visible due to increased demands on your planning, interpersonal and organisation skills.

Executive and Entrepreneur ADHD Coaching

Today many executives and entrepreneurs are engaging executive coaches to help them improve their work performance.  Professionals with ADHD can benefit from working with a coach who is knowledgeable about the neurobiology of ADD and the impact it can have on their personal and professional life. It is imperative that the ADHD executive’s coach be properly trained and experienced in methods and techniques that will help clients get around these challenges. Confidentiality and trust are of vital importance

How an ADHD Coach can help

Executive coaching can take many forms, on the phone or in person, accountability on agreed actions and feedback from the coach are powerful catalysts. Professionals with ADD who struggle to be more consistent in their performance need to bridge the gap between their desire to achieve and their ability to do it. The most important asset professionals have is time. A coach can help increase productivity and efficiency by setting up structures and accountability to reduce procrastinating on detail tasks and long-term projects. After years of trying to make changes, perhaps it is time to seek out the services of an ADD Executive Coach to help improve your personal and professional life. Areas that you may benefit from include:

  • Planning and prioritizing
  • Developing consistency and follow through
  • Increasing abilities to self-inhibit and self-monitor
  • Managing Staff
  • Work/life balance

Hope, Structure, Systems and Support

A coach provides hope by reminding the client what they have achieved and can yet achieve, reducing the sense of overwhelm by devising creative solutions for ADD challenges such prioritisation, distractions and follow through. The ADHD Coach can support you in taking a set of specific actions that ensure effective and lasting changes that will maximize your potential for success.
